Dat Phan
DAT PHAN is kicking up more entertainment than a Kung Fu classic while bringing culturally insightful comedy to center stage. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Dat immigrated to San Diego with his mother, suffering many hardships along the way. “I knew comedy was the thing for me,” Dat says, “when I was the only Asian kid in high school… who failed math.” Deciding to audition for an experimental new program on NBC, Dat beat out thousands of competitors to be crowned the winner of the original Last Comic Standing and to be named The Funniest Man in America. The rest is history!
As a headlining comedian, Dat tours the U.S. in his mission to inspire and entertain audiences of all ages and demographics alike. Among numerous others, his insightful brand of comedy has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tyra Banks Show, and in a Comedy Central Presents special. From doing voice-overs on The Family Guy to being included in The Smithsonian Institution’s exhibition of The Top 10 Most Influential Vietnamese-American Individuals, Dat is winning over America wherever he goes. Whether he is working on TV, film, CD’s, production, or publishing, Dat is sure to put the “fun” in “funny!"
With quick, astute comedy that addresses ridiculous cultural stereotypes, Dat’s dynamic performances allow the audience to share in his experience of being a regular American guy with a Vietnamese heritage. With a mission to bring appreciation of Asian-American artists into mainstream entertainment, Dat’s high-energy acts and spot-on imitations prove that his humor is even more hilarious than his hairstyle.
